Each year, the Southern Methodist University Cox Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship assesses and recognizes the growth of privately held businesses in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. These companies are being recognized for their financial and business contributions in Dallas and the surrounding communities. How are the Top 100 Determined?
In order to highlight local businesses, the SMU Cox Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship has offered the top 100 rankings for the last 30 years. The annual top 100 fastest growing privately held businesses are determined by analyzing three years of sales and company data. The SMU Cox Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship partners with the accounting firm BKD LLP CPAs and Advisors to analyze the numbers and determine the top 100 businesses that showed growth over the last three years. This year’s top 100 recipients were chosen because they showed significant business growth between 2017 and 2019.
What Happens Next?
In most years, the top 100 announcement would coincide with a fall celebration honoring the businesses that made the list and a gala event where a countdown reveals the order of the Top 100. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s events are being scheduled for the early spring. No specific dates are set for the two annual celebratory events, but the Caruth Institute Executive Director, Simon Mak, plans to announce details over the coming months for a socially-distanced reception in January or February, followed by a socially-distanced gala event in March.
