One of the smallest counties in Texas, Armstrong County has a population of just under 2,000 people. It was named for a Texas pioneer family. The county was formed in 1876 and organized in 1890. Armstrong County only has one city, the county seat, Claude, and the majority of county is comprised of unincorporated townships. The lower average rate is due to the number of residents who live in unincorporated townships.
